With a friendly and caring approach, our team always have the time to discuss any concerns and questions you may have.

Our 10-point clinical assessments

At Tenbury Dental Centre, we will typically ask you to attend an examination (“checkups”) twice a year. We believe that by focusing on prevention and being proactive, we can identify problems at the earliest stages or even stop them occurring altogether. Our 10-point clinical assessments give you added peace of mind about your oral health, and can prevent unnecessary discomfort and expenditure in the future.

Your 10-point clinical assessments include:

1. About You

We always promise to listen to and understand your wants and needs. We believe that it’s important to get to know you, to build a sense of trust, in order to give you the care you need. These consultations give you plenty of time to relax and chat without feeling as though you’re on a conveyor belt.

2. Lifestyle

We will discuss your existing diet and lifestyle, including factors such as smoking and alcohol consumption, which can affect the health of your teeth. We will also ask you about your general health and medication.

3. External Soft Tissue

We assess the glands around your neck, face and lips, noting facial profile and skin shade.

4. Jaw Joint

We assess your external jaw joints because the regular occurrence of headaches and migraines is often closely related to ‘bite’ issues.

5. Internal Soft Tissue

We assess the health of tongue, cheeks and palate, and carry out a comprehensive Oral Cancer Screening at each consultation. Our experienced clinicians recognise abnormal changes in the mouth and spot potential problems, such as oral cancer, which could help save lives.

6. Tooth Check

A detailed assessment of the health, function and appearance of your teeth and any existing restorations or prosthesis.

7. Gum Health

We will carry out an extensive gum assessment to assess again the foundation of your teeth. We may recommend a Hygienist programme after this and/or bespoke home care products.

8. Bite Records

Looking at and recording how your teeth meet and move across each other – this is important in terms of the function of any new restorations we may provide.

9. Radiographs

Where necessary, we will take x-rays of your teeth so we can assess the health of your teeth and surrounding bone. It gives us a visual of decay between teeth and under fillings not apparent to the eye. These xrays may also show infections under the roots guiding us to make accurate judgement on the necessary treatment.

10. Photographs and Intra-oral Digital Scan

Essential for patient education, treatment planning and a great communication tool to use with our laboratory.

Together we can discuss your bespoke treatment needs.

We are proactive with educating our young patients in dental health so there is less need for dental treatment in the next generation, promoting a conservative approach by prevention.

Dental Hygiene

Our role is to educate, motivate and demonstrate the most effective cleaning techniques to help stabilise and prevent the advancement of periodontal (gum) disease. It is very important to have regular hygiene treatments not only to help maintain healthy teeth and gums but it is also beneficial to attend hygiene visits in support of any dental treatment that the patient may be undergoing at the Tenbury Dental Centre. All restorative work both simple and complex including crowns, bridges and veneers need to be maintained and the Hygienist will work with the patient to teach the most effective way to ensure the longevity of the patient’s investment. It is also beneficial to have hygiene advice pre and post implant placement, so that the patient is clear on the importance of a good daily cleaning regime to prevent bone loss around the implant to help in its long term preservation. Also, research has shown that inflamed gums (bleeding gums) allow detrimental bacteria to enter the bloodstream from the mouth and this may have links to heart problems. Good plaque removal is essential to help reduce or stop bleeding gums and therefore minimising this risk.
